### Process Overview:


1. Workpiece Setup: The process begins by securing a raw material workpiece (often metal, plastic, or wood) into the lathe's chuck or collet. The workpiece rotates while the cutting tool remains stationary.


2. Tool Selection and Setup: A cutting tool, typically made of carbide or high-speed steel, is mounted onto the tool holder of the lathe. The tool is selected based on the specific design requirements of the part.


3. Programming: A CNC program is created, specifying the toolpath, cutting depths, speeds, feeds, and other machining parameters. This program guides the movements of the cutting tool to achieve the desired part dimensions and features.


4. Machining Operations:


  a. Facing: The cutting tool moves radially across the workpiece's end to create a smooth surface.

 

  b. Turning: The tool removes material from the workpiece's outer diameter to achieve the desired cylindrical shape and dimensions.


  c. Grooving and Parting: Specialized tools are used to cut grooves or separate the workpiece into distinct parts.


  d. Drilling and Boring: The tool creates holes or enlarges existing ones in the workpiece.


  e. Threading: Threads are cut into the workpiece using specialized tools to create screw threads.


5. Quality Control: Throughout the process, quality checks are conducted to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish of the machined parts. Measurements may be taken using precision measuring instruments.


6. Deburring and Finishing: After machining, the parts may undergo deburring to remove sharp edges or excess material. Additional finishing operations like polishing or coating might be applied depending on the desired surface quality.


7. Part Removal: Once the machining operations are complete, the finished parts are removed from the lathe for further processing, assembly, or use.
